Alok Industries Limited (Alok or company) is amongst the largest and fastest growing textile companies in the Indian manufacturing sector with a dominant presence in the cotton and polyester segments. It is vertically integrated across the cotton value chain from spinning, weaving and knitting to processing, garmenting and made ups. Under the polyester vertical, Alok produces FDY, POY, DTY and polyester fibre through the continuous polymerization route.
Alok ended financial year March 2011 with sales of around Rs. 6366 crores and profit after tax of around Rs. 377 cores [based on unaudited provisional results]. Exports constitute around 35% of total revenues and products find their way into more than 90 countries across the globe.
Having spotted opportunities in the textile arena ahead of contemporaries, Alok embarked on a mammoth capital expansion program investing significant amounts in setting up capacities across its diversified activities. Alok is now strategically positioned to seize the opportunities in the new global textile scenario and expects to be a key player in aiding the country in enhancing her market share in the world textile trade.
Alok effectively encourages the organic movement by being part of some prestigious international projects in organic and fair trade cotton. Alok’s commitment to sustainable textile business is endorsed by its products being certified for: ISO 9001:2000, Oeko-Tex Standard 100, Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) and Fair Trade Certificate (FLO).
Alok is also committed to environment and social compliance. Alok’s products are certified as eco-friendly under the EU Flower, KRAV and SWAN norms, probably the first to be so certified in the Indian textile industry. All plants are fully compliant with social standards. Effluents discharged from manufacturing units are treated with world class effluent treatment plants before discharge. As a responsible corporate citizen, Alok has taken active steps to integrate with the local population and provide them with sustainable employment opportunities. Tribal women have been trained on weaving looms and stiching machines before being absorbed in the workforce for gainful employment.
With infrastructure built to exceed environmental and social norms, sampling facilities and laboratories to the discerning and CSR initiatives to emphasize its commitment to provide a safe and healthy work environment and further the cause of women empowerment, Alok continues to exceed expectations of designers, brands, importers and retailers across the world.
