The latest cotton projections for 2004/05 indicate that foreign cotton usage is forecast at 97.1 million bales, a record. While world cotton consumption has grown 16 million bales since 1997/98 to 103.3 million, U.S. mill use has dropped 5 million bales and is expected to be the lowest in 20 years.
