Mr Joao Manuel Dotti  - Chairman & CEO, FISIPE

Operating since 1976, FISIPE is a producer of acrylic fibres with head quarters in Lavradio, Portugal. The company was set up in 1973 as a result of a joint-venture between the Japanese Group Mitsubishi and Companhia Uniao Fabril (CUF) a leading private Portuguese Group of Companies in the chemical industry with interests in the production and marketing of organic and inorganic chemicals for use in the chemical and textile industries, industry in general and agriculture; manufacture of special products and chemical specialities; extraction of raw materials; management of investments in other companies as an indirect way of performing business activities; provision of technical, administration and management services. FISIPE is quoted in the Lisbon Stock Exchange since 1986.

FISIPE, from a company producing basically standard textile fibre has gradually become a producer of special acrylic fibres, namely pre-dyed fibres, functional fibres and fibres for technical applications.

The company exports 95% of its production in the markets worldwide.

Mr Joao Manuel Dotti is the Chairman and CEO of FISIPE since 2005. Born on 11, December, 1934, Mr Dotti has done Machinery Engineering in the year 1959.

Mr Dotti began his professional career by joining CUF in 1960. In year 1973, he assumed the post of Managing Director at FISIPE. For the period 1986 to 1991, along with responsibilities of FISIPE, Mr Dotti also handled the management of Companhia das Lezirias as the President. He was also elected as FISIPE’s Chairman of the Board for March 2001 to 2002, and in 2002, on being voted by CUF’s Board of Directors, Mr Dotti joined ADP -the fertilizers business of CUF. After three years, in September 2005, CUF sold FISIPE to an MBO and Mr Dotti was one of the 3 new shareholders who bought the company, and was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO.

Beside this, Mr Dotti has been President of APEQ (Portuguese Chemical Producers Association) in 1980/85 and 1993/97; Chairman of the General Assembly for 1997/2001; Director of CIP (Portuguese Industrial Confederation) 1987/93; President CCILJ (Portuguese-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry) 1995/2000; and is Vice Chairman of AIP (Portuguese Industrial Association) since 1994.

In a talk with Face2Face team, Mr Joao Manuel Dotti comments on present state of Synthetic fibres industry and emerging opportunities in business of technical textile.

FISIPE is a producer of acrylic fiber - a raw material for the textile industry, operating since 1976. The period of its life with a bigger success was the 80’s, when the Portuguese textile industry, as well as the European, was strong and successful. At the beginning FISIPE sold 100% of its production in the domestic market and nowadays we export 95% of our products to the whole world.

FISIPE gradually developed from a manufacturer of standard textile fibers (raw staple, tow and top) to a producer of special acrylic fibers: pre-dyed fibers, functional fibers and fibers for technical applications.


Today our products are: FISIVON (staple, tow and top); Black FISIVON (a dope-dyed pigmented fiber using the carbon black pigment); Sunlast (an excellent sunlight and weather resistant fiber); Colour FISIVON (a gel-dyed fiber in a wide range of colors); Pil-Clean (a fiber with excellent anti-pilling results); Pluma (a fiber with a modified cross-section that provides bulkiness effects and an outstanding soft touch); Flat (an excellent imitation of fur with an incredible natural look and very high softness); Paper+ (a fiber with FDA approved finish); Pulp+ (ideal for the fibrillation process); Filter+ (a high tenacity fiber ideal for industrial filtrations); Asphal+ (to be used in bituminous mixtures) and Binder+ (to be used in plaster and cementitious matrices).
