Trichy

Tamil Nadu

Adversity challenges one and all and here is an example where 300BC art and craft still survives to enrich lives today and dress modern day men and women globally.

Woraiyur cotton and silk sarees for which Tiruchirappalli Cluster is famous for; was existent even in 300BC during the Chola Dynasty when it flourished in all grandeur. Today areas like Manamedu, Musiri, Thatheingarpet, Mettupalayam, Trichy, Poovalur, Thuraiyur, Kottathur and Paithamparai from the cluster also contribute jointly to produce almost 5% of the total production of sarees from Tamil Nadu State.

Here, weaver communities known as Padma Saliyars, Devangars and Mudaliars carry on their centuries old tradition to weave exquisite designs and patterns that attract not only dmosetic but buyers from abroad too.

Intervention from Government agencies and EDI, Trichy or Tiruchirappalli cluster’s capacities have enhanced with the emergence of new production centres like Thatheingarpet, Manamedu, Musiri, Kulithalai and Thogaimalai. Besides output, quality of the cluster products like cotton sarees, cotton voiles, cotton dhoties and cotton uppers have found regular takers.

Today, there are more than 150 weavers weaving pure silk varieties, thanks to training and support that has provided them access to necessary inputs like the cloth roller and exposure to new markets.

So, go ahead and drape yourself in the magical Woraiyur cotton and silk sarees or decorate and furnish your home / offices with superb voile fabrics from Trichy or Tiruchirappalli - where timeless handloom legacy beckons one and all!
