Evening wear has never been so fantastic! This season
all the sumptuous colours, fabrics, finishes and adornments are out together
and the result is evening wear that you imagined when you read fairy stories as
a child.
There are silks and velvets, beads and embroidery all
making this seasons evening clothes a must have for any wardrobe.
One of the most amazing fabrics of all is devore. A
devore finish is one that is used on velvet or other pile fabrics. It is a
resist technique where the fabric is coated with a chemical paste in a pattern.
Where it is coated the chemical burns off the pile of the fabric leaving a
pattern in relief on top of the mesh warp of the original fabric. This
sumptuous finish gives a real sense of body to a fabric and allows it to flow
and fold in a different way from other fabrics. The technique is often used in
conjunction with a printed pattern to create a fabric with a double pattern.
This three dimensional pattern allows clothes to be created in really simple
lines which are then worn over plain shifts to create a fabulous piece of
evening wear fit for a princess.
In addition to the range of devore items across the
variety of evening wear this season there is also added the luxury of
embroidery. Embroidery not only brightens up an outfit but it also adds texture
as well as pattern to a garment bringing a sense of individuality to otherwise
conventional pieces of evening wear.
Christmas gives you the ideal opportunity to put on
evening wear that sparkles a bit more than usual. At Christmas the lights and
brightness of the season allows for colourful clothes and the excuse of having
parties to go to makes it possible to justify all the opulence too.
If you are a little more conservative, how about the
beautiful array of velvet that is currently in the shops. There are velvet
trousers that will look fabulous with any outfit. Good enough to wear out in
the evening teamed with a lovely embroidered top they will make you look great
whatever the evening occasion you are attending.
However with the recession things can be a little
grim and your purse strings a little tight, if this is the case a great way to
liven up last years evening wear is to treat yourself to a brightly coloured
silk scarf or a beaded purse. This will liven up your evening wear and put you
in the mood for a party without breaking the bank.
In fact even in troubled times remember there is
never a better time to get out some bright clothes and remind yourself that
things will get better!
