Abstract:

Silk has fascinated man continuously over the millennia than other fabric. It is royal in its splendor and exotic and sensuous in its radiance. It is highly versatile and hence known as Queen of Textiles. By degumming process the aesthetic appeal can be improved. The conventional method of degumming silk by soap & alkali consumes more energy and time and degrades the silk material. In the present technical era the textile industry demanding high quality and new properties, especially in the field of silk processing in which we are almost lack in modern processing and finishing. The multifunctional auxiliaries and energy conservation processes are the Prime concern of the Textile Chemical processing industry. The researchers undergoing many studies to short cut the processes without sacrificing the quality to meet the scarcity of water & energy. One such study is utilizing the -CD treatment in silk degumming process.

Cyclodextrins are cyclic oligosaccharides formed by the enzymatic modification of starch. They possess a cage-like supramolecular structure, Because of their inclusion complex forming capability, the properties of the materials with which they complex can be modified significantly. As a result the present work deals, for the first time, with the formation of a Beta-CD IC with a natural protein as guest, i.e., silk fibroin from Bombyx mori silkworm. . The process of -CD treatment is carried out in two reverse cases of degumming processing, -CD treatment followed by conventional treatment and conventional treatment followed by-CD treatment, were put forward. Finally, the Weight loss, Absorbency & SEM analysis of the degummed silk fabrics and the K/S values (color depth) & colour fastness of the dyed silk fabrics were measured and compared with those of conventional treated ones.
