Flash steam
was being recovered by only 9 % of the industries. It was found that in most of
the industries flash steam was being vented. Flash steam can be recoverd and
used for low pressure applications or can be used for feed water heating which
will reduce the special fuel consumption.
In most of
the plants it was found that Float Type and Inverted type traps were installed
on heating application. But it has been observed that Float type traps were
gaining acceptance. This is in line with the practice of correct sizing and
correct selection for effective condensate removal and energy conservation,
leading to reduced batch time.
Selection
of correct steam pressure is essential for maintaining proper process
temperature in order to ensure uniform color, print and brighness of the
knitted products. It was found that in most of industries the steam pressure was
manually controlled. Correctly sized pressure reducing stations and temperature
controllers will ensure correct process parameters leading to optimized special
fuel consumption.

engineering practices like air vents on equipments and equal tees for
distribution system, having correctly sized distribution lines and proper
insulation will ensure reduction in special fuel consumption.
