David T. Parkes is currently the Managing Director of Dyehouse Solutions International (www.dyehouses.com). He has over 40 years’ international experience in dyeing and finishing industries of all cellulosic fibres. He spent 30 years working for ICI Plc and Zeneca Plc, including working secondments involving residences in Italy (1 year), Turkey (1 year) and Indonesia (3 years). He has also travelled extensively across the industries of South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, South Africa, Mauritius, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and El Salvador. He has had over 60 papers published at international conferences and symposia. He has spent the last two years building up work experience in India and Pakistan, and is a regular contributor to the leading Asian publication “Colourage”.

He has been described as a resourceful, innovative and self-motivated Technical & Marketing Consultant with a proven reputation as a world-leading authority on reactive dyestuffs.

Polyester microfibres   

  Polyester Microfibres offer higher levels of value addition in the Textile Supply Chain. However, the large internal surface area, much larger than with conventional polyester fibres, poses particular problems to the processor. This applies especially to the chemical preparation and dyeing stages

  A pair of white polyester Ladies’ trousers which had been packed with polypropylene film had partly changed to yellow on storage in the warehouse in Turkey. What could be the reason? And what could be done to prevent it?

Washing - Off reactive dyes after dyeing: Shortening the process   

  The basis for this article arises from a question by a prominent Turkish producer: “The rinsing and washing processes in my dyehouse are too long. Is there any way that we can utilise our existing machinery to improve the efficiency and reduce the rinsing time without compromising fastness properties?
