Complex regulatory environment in new markets
Testing and inspection have found a place in the Indian textile industry. Paromita Roy, Country Director of Bureau Veritas discusses the importance of testing and inspection in India's textile industry in an exclusive interview with Fibre2Fashion.com

What are the issues plaguing textile businesses around the world?

The main issue plaguing textile businesses around the world is to produce quality products that are sustainable as well as produced in a stipulated period of time. Textile and apparel companies planning expansion in new markets globally face a complex regulatory environment which makes production of goods difficult. Meeting particular standards and requirements is again a major problem affecting textile companies. They often lack awareness and current updates on the rules and regulations in the domestic and export markets.

What is the relevance of testing in the textile industry? Why is it gaining popularity?

Nowadays, companies find that they need to speed up their deliveries to an increasingly demanding market for a wide variety of products. Continuously changing environment in terms of regulations and client demands force companies to adopt strategies that not only meet their requirements in terms of quality and durability, but also meet the changing trends and standards. Testing products for quality and safety has, therefore, become all the more important. Testing has its benefits while tackling the issues of consumer complaints and losses. It not only helps in building business, but also helps in building a good reputation in addition to sustainability benefits.
