  • Your CV is your advertisement. It must create the right impression.
  • Your CV needs to effectively communicate your strengths, your achievements and your personality in a well-presented, easily readable format.
Do
  • Put your name at the top, not Curriculum Vitae
  • Put your contact details beneath your name
  • Quantify your skills and achievements. If you handled a £1m budget, say so!
  • Try to turn features into benefits.
  • Tailor your CV to fit the job you are applying for
  • Focus on the past 10 years
  • Be economical with words - organise the information into manageable sections
  • Include a section on your interests; this adds your personality to your CV
  • Number each page in case any become detached
  • Get some feedback on your CV

Don’t

  • Use anything other than white paper
  • Send a photo
  • Leave gaps in your career summary
  • Waffle – your CV should be no longer than 2 to 3 pages
  • Be too modest!
