International Conference on Prospects of Jute and
Kenaf as Natural Fibres on 08-09 February 2009 in Dhaka
The International Jute Study Group (IJSG), the legal successor to the erstwhile
International Jute Organisation (IJO), was established on 27 April 2002, to
administer the provisions and supervise the operations of the Agreement
establishing the Terms of Reference of the International Jute Study Group,
2001.
The Secretariat of the International Jute Study Group (IJSG), Dhaka, Bangladesh
is organizing a 2-day International Conference on “Prospects of Jute &
Kenaf as Natural Fibres” in connection with the observance of the International
Year of Natural Fibres (IYNF) 2009 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship
Conference Centre in Dhaka on 08-09 February 2009 in consonance with UNGA
declaration of 2009 as the International Year of Natural Fibres.
The Conference will be conducted in English. The initiative is expected to
build an international framework for creating global awareness about usefulness
and beneficial attributes of natural fibres like jute and kenaf along with
positive impact on the society of the producing countries and providing
economic security to a large number of people of those countries. It is
anticipated that it will raise the profile of natural fibres, increase consumer
awareness and strengthen demand for natural fibre products. It will help
develop the jute sector that employs millions of people and provide
socio-economic development opportunities.
There will also be an Exhibition of various jute products at the Conference
Venue.
