Franchise India has awarded the Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC), India’s largest vocational training provider for the apparel industry with the ‘Best Training Institution-National’ Education Award.

In a press release, ATDC said it has been selected for this award for its contribution to large scale quality skilling of Indian youth, especially women in rural, mofussils and semi urban areas.

It added by saying the award also recognised it for meeting the rapidly changing skill requirements of the apparel sector with real time industry relevant skill modules & new learning solutions.

ATDC is the largest vocational training provider for the textile-apparel chain offering a comprehensive bouquet of courses in an integrated manner by creating a ‘step ladder-training eco-system’.

Dr. Darlie Koshy, DG and CEO of ATDC and Neera Singh Parihar, senior deputy registrar at ATDC received the award on behalf of ATDC.

The award was conferred by Pawan Agarwal, joint secretary at Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India.

“We are proud to receive this award after training over 160,000 candidates in the short term and nearly 40,000 candidates in longer duration programs through about 200 centres pan-India,” Dr Koshy said.

“The award is a milestone in this journey of up-gradation and scaling up, which ATDC has undertaken over the last 5-6 years,” he added.

“ATDC further through an ‘integrated step-ladder eco system’ for skill training, ensures employment of youth and empowerment of women creating multiplier effect in the rural economy,” Dr Koshy informed.

Pawan Agarwal stated that in India the dropout rate of students from schools is very high, and since these students are from very disadvantaged section of the society, generally nobody is bothered about them.

“Government spends around Rs 90 crore annually on those children who are part of the formal education and these dropouts also deserve the similar treatment if not more,” he too added.

“Therefore our ministry is working towards skilling them to make them responsible citizens of the country,” Agarwal observed.

ATDC is recognised nationally for its innovative training initiatives like creation of Skills for Manufacturing of Apparel through Research & Training (SMART).

The institute has also launched ATDC-JUKI Tech Innovation Centre, Product Specialty Centres and also adopted denovo approaches such as Simulated Production Environment, State-of-the-Art Infrastructure, etc.

It manages about 176 ATDCs including 65 ATDC Vocational Institutes and about 115 ATDC-SMART Centres offering state-of the- art vocational programmes.

ATDC has also received the ASSOCHAM Award for ‘Best Institute: Innovation 2015’ and also the ‘Best Vocational Institute 2014’ and is a proud recipient of UK-India Skill Forum Award in 2011 as well. (AR)
