A global sourcing option that empowers vendors with means to meet retailer and government mandates for RFID carton and pallet labels has been introduced by Avery Dennison Retail Information Services (RIS), a part of Fortune 500 company Avery Dennison Corporation.
This new capability offered by RIS represents one of many initiatives underway across Avery Dennison to develop RFID products and services.
The new service bureau offering, called RFID Ticket Express®, brings to vendors field-proven ordering and delivery processes and a global network of RFID label programming/printing facilities.
With RFID Ticket Express, the task of producing and delivering RFID labels rests in the hands of one of the world’s largest and most experienced producers of preprinted carton labels and price tags. After establishing an RFID Ticket Express program, vendors can expect 48-72 hour shipment of pre-programmed and verified RFID labels to their manufacturing and distribution centers worldwide.
RFID Ticket Express operates on an existing service bureau platform called Ticket Express®, which consists of more than 35 printing centers in over 30 countries. Avery Dennison’s Ticket Express provides hundreds of millions of carton labels to hundreds of manufacturers each year. This proven process for producing and delivering labels equips organizations having immediate RFID labeling needs with a rapid program launch capability.
RFID Ticket Express can be used to support or complement in-house RFID printing operations. An RFID Ticket Express service bureau solution can bypass integration, operation and training challenges occasionally associated with in-house printing operations.
According to Robert Loop, Vice President Marketing for Avery Dennison Retail Information Services, data management and customer advisory services are key RFID Ticket Express components.
"With RFID Ticket Express, we receive variable data from our customer, program RFID labels with the Electronic Product Code (EPC), and preprint them as required with human-readable data, bar codes and symbols. We then verify the labels’ RFID data, as well as their bar code readability, and expedite them to vendor facilities worldwide," says Loop .
“Equally important is our ability to advise and recommend,” Loop continues. “At Avery Dennison RIS, we have the knowledge and experience to quickly demystify RFID label vendor compliance issues for customers. This includes questions about emerging RFID standards, such as Generation 2.”
Based in Pasadena, California, USA, Avery Dennison ($4.8 billion sales registered last year) is a global leader in pressure-sensitive technology and innovative self-adhesive solutions for consumer products and label materials. It is a member of EPCglobal, a consensus-based, not-for-profit standards organization. EPCglobal is leading the development of industry-driven standards for the Electronic Product Code (EPC) Network to support the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Major markets include retail, apparel, softlines and hardgoods.
