AATCC has launched the 2019 Proficiency Testing Programmes (PTP) programmes for lab performance verification of textiles. PTPs support certification and continuous improvement initiatives for textile laboratories. AATCC provides test method development, quality control materials, and professional networking for members in about 50 countries in the world.

Six AATCC programmes cover antibacterial, appearance, colour evaluation, colourfastness, fibre analysis, and water resistance test methods and evaluation procedures. Samples are selected to provide consistent results in a meaningful range for each programme. Online registration, launched in September 2018, allows labs to complete registration and credit card payment in one easy step, according to a press release by AATCC.

Labs can register for one or more PTPs. AATCC will then send samples, instructions, and data sheets to participating labs twice per year. The labs have approximately one month to complete testing and submit results online. AATCC will distribute a report to participating labs with a confidential lab code. Each lab will receive a certificate of participation.

For visual colour evaluation, samples will be shipped in January and July 2019. It includes EP1, Gray Scale for colour change and EP2, Gray Scale for staining. For fibre analysis, samples will be shipped in February and August 2019, which include TM20, Fibre Analysis: Qualitative and TM20A, Fibre Analysis: Quantitative.

Appearance & Physical Properties samples will be shipped in March and September 2019. These include TM88B, Seam Smoothness in Fabrics after Home Laundering, TM88C, Crease Retention in Fabrics after Home Laundering, TM124, Appearance of Fabrics after Home Laundering, and TM135, Dimensional Changes of Fabrics after Home Laundering.

For Antibacterial, samples will be shipped from April and October 2019, which include TM100, Antibacterial Finishes on Textile Materials and TM147, Antibacterial Activity Assessment of Textile Materials: Parallel Streak Method. Water Resistance & Repellency samples will be shipped from May and November 2019. This includes TM22, Water Repellency: Spray Test, TM35, Water Resistance: Rain Test, TM42, Water Resistance: Impact Penetration Test, and TM127, Water Resistance: Hydrostatic Pressure Test.

Colourfastness Samples will be shipped from June and December 2019. This test includes TM8, Colourfastness to Crocking: Crockmeter Method, TM15, Colourfastness to Perspiration, TM16.3, Colourfastness to Light: Xenon-Arc, and TM61, Colourfastness to Laundering: Accelerated • TM107, Colourfastness to Water.
