Anil Kumar given additional charge of KVIC CEO

BH Anil Kumar, joint secretary (Agri and Rural Industries) in the ministry of micro small and medium enterprises, has been given the additional charge as chief executive officer (CEO) of Khadi and Village Industries Corporation (KVIC). Kumar was looking after the Coir Board before being given the additional charge, according to a news agency report.

The post of CEO of KVIC has been vacant for the last 11 months.

Kumar, a 1987 batch IAS officer of Karnataka cadre, worked for the Karnataka government at various positions during 1987 to 2013. He handled different assignments like Land Revenue & Management, Urban Development, Human Resource Development, Social Justice & Empowerment, Consumer Affairs Food & Public Distribution, Commerce, Transport, Agriculture & Cooperation, etc.

He has also worked as the managing director of Karnataka Soaps & Detergents Ltd., Mysore Paper Mills Ltd. and Karnataka State Road Development Corporation. He has also served as chief project officer in Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project (K-Ship).

The KVIC, a Government of India body, is charged with the planning, promotion, organisation and implementation of programmes for the development of khadi and other village industries in the rural areas in coordination with other agencies engaged in rural development wherever necessary.

Its functions also comprise building up of a reserve of raw materials and implements for supply to producers, creation of common service facilities for processing of raw materials as semi-finished goods and provisions of facilities for marketing of khadi and village industries’ products apart from organisation of training of artisans engaged in these industries and encouragement of co-operative efforts amongst them.

KVIC also forges linkages with established marketing agencies to promote the sale and marketing of khadi and/or products of village industries or handicrafts. (RKS)
