APTMA again urges Pak govt for relief package

Since around 30 per cent of units in the textile and apparel sector have closed their operations, throughout the country, the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) again urged the government to announce a relief package for the sector. Its chairman also noted that trade deficit soared to $7 billion during the first fiscal quarter.
Speaking at a press conference, APTMA chairman Aamir Fayyaz said policy measures required to give relief to the sector include duty-free import of raw materials, extension of long-term finance facility to indirect exports, elimination of customs duty on cotton, input tax adjustment on packing materials, etc.
Fayyaz also demanded that a notification from the government of NEPRA-determined tariff for the sector without prevalence of surcharge to provide electricity at regionally competitive rates. (AR)
