The department of textile and fibre engineering in the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-D) and the Defence Material and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE) in Kanpur have jointly developed an advanced version of body coveralls that meets the Indian health ministry’s criteria and offers adequate levels of breathability for additional comfort and a softer feel to support extended wearability.
S M Ishtiaque, professor emeritus in the department and his student Biswa Ranjan Das, who is an assistant director at DMSRDE, have developed the body coverall, according to an IIT-D press release. The Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi and the Defence Material and Stores Research and Development Establishment in Kanpur have jointly developed an advanced version of body coveralls that meets the Indian health ministry's criteria and offers adequate levels of breathability for additional comfort and a softer feel to support extended wearability.#
Its salient features include special coating and treatment formulation applied over very light and compact polyester woven fabric, which maintains the weight of the coverall at 300 grams against commercially available one that weigh 400-500 grams.
The outer face of the coverall repels water and oil in an excellent manner. It can be reused three times and is available in four sizes.
The researchers have collaborated with G D International to produce 1,20,000 coveralls per month.
