Amazon India has announced the opening of second fulfilment centre in Ahmedabad. Along with this, it now has two fulfilment centres in Gujarat offering close to around 450,000 cubic feet of storage space for faster and easier delivery to customers in the region. This is one of the seven recently announced fulfilment centres for this year.

Spread over close to 120,000 square feet, this new centre situated in Bhayala Village near Ahmedabad, will empower thousands of small & medium businesses to leverage the growth of the digital economy and reach a wide customer base. Before the beginning of festive season, Amazon will have 41 fully operational fulfilment centres in India.

"Amazon India’s latest investment with the launch of their second fulfilment centre in Gujarat signifies the growing interest of large global enterprises in Gujarat. The fulfilment centre will enable thousands of small & medium businesses selling locally created products such as apparels, handlooms & handicraft to service customers seamlessly across the country & the globe. It will also fuel the growth of ancillary businesses such as packaging, transportation, logistics, and hospitality across the state. We are committed to enabling the ease of doing business and enabling companies like Amazon.in to expand their presence in Gujarat," said Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani during the opening of the centre.

"In line with our vision to transform the way India buys and sells, we have been consistently investing in enhancing our capabilities to provide a superior experience to both – buyers and sellers. With the launch of a second fulfilment centre in Gujarat, we strongly believe that we will be able to better serve our prime customers with one-day & two-day delivery," said Akhil Saxena, vice president, India Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India.

"Furthermore, for our sellers, the new fulfilment centre will enable thousands of small & medium businesses to save money by replacing their upfront capital expense with low variable cost and pay only for the storage space they use and the orders that we fulfill. The fulfilment centre will also create numerous skilling and employment opportunities for the youth across the country," added Saxena.

Through these fulfilment centres with state-of-the-art infrastructure, Amazon.in will provide a delightful customer experience through Fulfilment By Amazon (FBA). When using FBA, sellers across India send their products to Amazon’s fulfilment centres and once an order is placed, Amazon picks, packs, and ships the order to the customer, provides customer service and manages returns on behalf of the sellers. Orders fulfilled by Amazon are eligible for Cash on Delivery, Guaranteed Next-Day, Same Day, Release Day, Morning delivery and Sunday delivery. Sellers always have the flexibility to choose the number of products they want to have fulfilled by Amazon and scale according to their business requirements.

"Our fulfilment centre will provide local SMEs with a platform to sell their products to millions of customers and scale their business to greater heights. We have seen a 2x growth in our sellers in Ahmedabad and Gujarat over the last one year, with currently more than 22,000 sellers in the state," concluded Saxena. (RR)
