Geneva-based IndustriALL Global Union, which represents 50 million workers in more than 140 countries working in mining, energy and manufacturing sectors, has signed an agreement with British fashion clothing e-commerce brand ASOS to strengthen the implementation of international labour standards across the latter’s international supply chain.

Both parties will jointly develop methodologies to assess the impact of purchasing practices at the worker level of the supply chain, implement confidential worker hotlines and link ASOS’ gender empowerment programme with IndustriALL’s worker rights training, according to a press release from IndustriALL.

The agreement deepens the relationship between the two sides and is an important step for supply chain industrial labour relations, said IndustriALL general secretary Valter Sanches. ASOS CEO Nick Beighton said his company wants to ensure that everyone working in their supply chain feels safe and respected by their employers and fellow workers. (DS)
