Marks & Spencer Reliance India appoints James Munson as MD

Marks & Spencer Reliance India, a joint venture of UK retailer Marks and Spencer Group Plc (M&S) and Reliance Retail Ltd, has appointed James Munson as the new managing director. Munson, who has been working with M&S since 2006, is currently MD of the Czech group with responsibility of 48 stores in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia.

Munson has more than 20 years of experience in the retail industry, including six years in India and Czech region. Between 2011 and 2013, he was the head of retail and marketing in India. In 2013, he took charge as the head of retail and supply chain.

Munson will take over as MD from Venu Nair who will be leaving M&S this month to join Trent Limited as chief commercial officer.

“We are delighted to appoint James Munson as our new managing director for our India business, one of our fastest growing markets. James has extensive retail experience and solid understanding of our India business,” said Jonathan Glenister, Marks & Spencer’s regional director of Europe, India and Greater China, in a statement.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to India and have the opportunity to put our Indian customers at the heart of everything we do. As one of our key growth markets, this is a really exciting time to be re-joining the team,” said Munson.

In India, M&S currently operates 57 outlets across 27 cities, which is the highest outside the UK. M&S brand has recently been launched on three e-commerce marketplaces, Amazon, Ajio and Myntra. (RKS)
