Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Chairman Shaikh Mohammad Shafiq has alleged that the government is dragging its feet over sales tax refunds for exporters.

He also reiterated textile industry's demand for zero taxation and said the textile industry could not survive otherwise.

Shafiq charged the government of not giving any price relief to the consumers for many months despite constantly falling oil prices which were as low as $30 per barrel on January 12, 2016.

He said the government should take drastic steps on a priority basis for enhancing exports and address the problems faced by industrial sector.

Despite certain hurdles, the readymade garments (RMG) sector was making strenuous efforts for enhancing the export in the larger national interests and provide employment, he said.

The value added export oriented industrial sector of the country has also urged the authorities to ensure the deduction of Rs 3 per unit of power for industries, as announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. (SH)
