Pakistani value-added textile industry recently urged the caretaker minister for commerce and industry Mian Misbah-ur-Rehman to restore the role of associations, the elected representatives of exporters, in the transparent disbursement of refunds. The government will soon notify the extension of duty drawback of taxes (DDT) under the Prime Ministers Export Package.

The package was extended and approved for the next three years by the previous government.

According to Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) chairman Khurram Anwar Khawaja, the associations earlier used to certify the authenticity of information provided by the exporting units and verify the claim documents.

As the responsibility of checking the authenticity of claims and scrutinising documents shifted to banks, that led to errors and delays, Pakistani media reports quoted Khawaja as saying. (DS)
