TTF urges buyers to verify genuineness of cooling fabrics

The Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) has urged shoppers to check the authenticity of clothing items while purchasing apparels certified by ‘cooling fabrics’ manufacturers.

Cooling fabrics are effective in helping the wearers to beat the heat during summers. These fabrics have a ‘Q-max’ value which corresponds to the maximum amount of heat that the fabric can reflect away from the wearer.  The higher the Q-max value, the greater is the cooling effect.

According to the TTF, 0.14 is the threshold value that separates cooling fabrics from the non-cooling ones.

At present, only 15 textile manufacturers in Taiwan have been recognized as producers of special performance fabrics, the TTF said.

Hence, the association advised consumers to be careful and choose apparels with Q-max value greater than 0.14, while purchasing garments that are advertised as effective in beating the summer heat.
