Garment fair IIGF targets deals worth $75mn

The country's premier fashion and apparel industry event, The India International Garment Fair (IIGF), yesterday with Indian exporters exhibiting their Autumn-Winter 2006 collection.

The 36th IIGF is showcasing products from almost 340 companies, and is expected to generate business worth $75 million.

IIGF will attract over 600 foreign buyers from 65 countries where high fashion and occasional wear, leather and fur garments, casual wear and city wear, maternity wear, lingerie, socks and denim, uniforms, sports wear and work clothes are kept on display.

Leading brands of fashion world such as Marcel BAUER from France, HOBO silk and Lotus Creations from United States, Max Mara and Morgane from Italy, Rockford Trading Company Ltd and Tessa Maynard from the United Kingdom will add colors displaying their fare, as IIGF targets buyers of medium level exports.

The business to business event at the three-day IIGF fair is considered an important schedule for first time buyers, which has seen increasing number of visitors with each passing year.

The apparel exports industry contributes 12 percent of India's total foreign exchange standing second to only to gems and jewellery exports.

Apparel exports were 42 percent of total textile basket in 2004 registering sales worth $5,337 million, contributing 9.3 percent share of India's total exports.
