Australian clothes makers union have initiated Federal Court action against 27 companies accusing them of exploitation.
Garment companies have gone against the laws and exploited outworkers and garment makers who work from their homes, said Textile Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia (TCFUA).
About 300,000 outworkers working in Australia's textile industry are paid $3 per hour which is against Clothing Trades Award, said Michele O'Neil, State Secretary TCFUA.
Workers after working day and night get $10 to $20 for that garment which sells for hundreds of dollars.
It is really shocking to encounter such problem in Australia even in 2006, she said.
