Cotton Incorporated presented five trends to rule your school.

Round up the kids, it's time to send them back to class! However, before they get on that bus, they need to do some back-to-school shopping. Not sure what's hot this year? Rachel Crumbley, Cotton Incorporated's trend specialist has put together five top trends to keep your kid up to date and at the head of the class.

Plaid – Both boys and girls will be wearing plaid this fall in varied looks. Boys will be wearing rustic flannels and retro-inspired shirts, while girls will be looking for colors such as pink, lavender and cream incorporated into their plaid and houndstooth patterns.

Denim – This season's denim, a back-to-school “must,” is not just your basic jean. Girls will be looking for denim with lots of embellishments, such as charms and embroidery. Denim skirts are especially popular again, whether they are minis layered with leggings, or the new, fuller skirt. Boys denim will look a lot like their fathers' with sophisticated washes, subtle stitching and pocket details. Instead of a basic blue, try black denim.

“This fall kids' fashion will be following in the steps of the grown-up market. Kids' are becoming increasingly experimental with their clothes and are looking for an individualized look, especially with denim,” says Crumbley. This individualized look is easily achieved with the right tools. Crayola offers fabric markers and gem setters for an easy do-it-yourself project at home.Image courtesy of Crayola
