Clothing exporters outline plan to target new markets

The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) of Sri Lanka recently announced a five-year strategic plan before the government that proposes expansion of the apparel sector while emphasizing on the need to explore new markets for the sector.

Rohan Masakorala, General Secretary of JAAF elucidated that the five-year plan, targets exploring markets like that of Japan, Russia, India and China, and even the budding markets of South America. Also, it accentuates the need to supply to markets like Australia. Exploring these new markets could be made possible by inking trade agreements with these budding markets, he added.

Masakorala said that, framing a practical policy in this relation is essential not just for the apparel sector, but all in all for exports. He further stated that the proposed plan is concentrated to see that the Sri Lankan apparel sector earns recognization for its value addition and gets established as a brand, while earning the country a status as a apparel sourcing hub.
