Gujarat RMG producers up in arms against excise levy

In protest against the decision to impose 10 percent excise duty on branded garments, The Gujarat Garment Manufacturers Association (GGMA) will hold a rally on March 4 in Ahmedabad.
It may be recalled that, the Finance Minister had proposed a 10 percent mandatory excise duty on branded clothing in the latest budget, while earlier; it was optional on readymade garments and textile made ups.
GGMA members will hold a meeting and then take out a protest rally in the garment manufacturing hub of Ahmedabad. GGMA members are also willing to stop all production for a day if needed, in protest against the decision.
