The British Fashion Council (BFC) has forged a new partnership between its Vogue Designer Fashion Fund and China’s largest retailer JD.com Inc. that will allow British design talent engage with the Chinese market and increase its footprint there. JD.com launched JD Fashion early this year to expand its global fashion presence and bring more brands to China.

Effective from January 2018, the partnership will benefit the 2018 Vogue Designer Fashion Fund competition winners. To launch this partnership JD Fashion supported 2015 winner Mary Katrantzou winner and Huishan Zhang, shortlisted in 2017, on their London Fashion Week September 2017 shows, according to a recent BFC press release.

With China being the world’s second largest consumer and luxury market and an increased interest from Chinese consumers for British designers, JD Fashion will help designers who are part of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund to enter an ‘often difficult to navigate’ Chinese market, the press release added.

Started in 2008, the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund discovers new talent and accelerate the development of the next leading British brand. JD.com Inc. joins existing funders, which include British Vogue, Burberry, Harrods, LABEL, Paul Smith and Topshop. (DS)
