The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) is taking a large delegation of businessmen and officials to Brussels and the Netherlands to showcase what the country can offer to the Europe. The focus has changed from telling other countries what we need to conveying what our country can offer, according to BIDA executive chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam.

The week-long visit will start from April 18 with a focus on Netherlands' strengths — water, information technology and agriculture, according to a Bangladesh news agency report.

The delegation comprises members of investment promoting agencies like Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and Public-Private Partnership Authority, along with representatives of the Dutch Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DBCCI).

The team will meet Belgian Government officials and the officials at the European Union headquarters and visit the Antwerp port.

In the Netherlands, there will be a seminar and a business networking meeting. It will also visit the Rotterdam Port.

The Netherlands is the ninth largest importer of Bangladeshi goods worth $1 billion. It exports goods worth $200 million.

Bangladesh is currently ranked 177th among 190 countries in the World Bank’s ease of doing business ranking. BIDA has plans to secure a place below 100 by 2021. (DS)
