Apparel marketer Tom Tailor forays into Canada

Germany based apparel marketer Tom Tailor Group has entered in to a joint venture with a Canadian distributor, The Mercer House to foray into the high-potential Canadian market.

“The Tom Tailor Group which holds a 51 per cent in the JV will introduce its Tom Tailor, Tom Tailor Denim and Tom Tailor Contemporary brands beginning July 2015,” a press release informed.

The international expansion into Canada will take place mainly in the wholesale segment, in particular by increasing the number of shop-in-shops with high-profile trade partners.

This growth will be flanked by the targeted establishment of retail stores. The Group has already opened a showroom in Montreal to present its product ranges.

According to the apparel marketer, it will benefit from the expertise of The Mercer House, with decades of experience in sales and marketing in both the retail and wholesale sectors.

"The Canadian market is very attractive for companies in the fashion industry and is at the same time very similar to the European market,” Dieter Holzer, CEO of Tom Tailor Holding AG said.

“Metropolises like Toronto and Montreal offer excellent opportunities for entering the market and expanding,” he added.

“With this joint venture, we are convinced to not only successfully position ourselves in the Canadian market, but also grow in the future," Holzer observed.

Tom Tailor Group is an international fashion and lifestyle company offering stylish casual wear and accessories in the medium price range through its brands Tom Tailor and Bonita.

The Tom Tailor brand comprises of brands like Tom Tailor, Tom Tailor Denim, Tom Tailor Polo Team and Tom Tailor Contemporary.

Its collections are aimed at customers aged between 0 and 40 and are marketed in more than 35 countries via wholesale and retail segments.

Bonita, one of Germany's leading fashion brand producers and retailers, has been a part of the group since August 2012 and markets menswear and womenswear collections for the over 40 age group.

In 2014, the Tom Tailor Group recorded sales of €932.1 million, of which €324.9 million was generated by the Bonita brand.

The Group manages 1,402 of its own retail stores as of March 2015, of which 1,014 are Bonita brand stores and 388 are Tom Tailor stores.

The Mercer House is a leading, full service multi-brand licensing and distribution company of lifestyle brands.

It is an exclusive distributor for Ragwear for USA and Canada, as well as the exclusive Canadian licensees or distributors for Billionaire Boys Club, Modern Amusement, Wutang Brand Ltd, Famous Stars and Straps and Reason. (AR)
