Crystal Group, a Hong Kong headquartered clothing manufacturer, has committed to 100 per cent adoption of the new Higg Index FEM 3.0 in 2018, says the company's sustainability report. The company has been a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition since 2012 and is working towards bringing lasting benefits to the communities for a better world.

"Our vision is to be the leading sustainable enterprise in our industry globally. We believe our sustainable growth measures are pivotal to our strong performance and reputation over recent years across geographies and products. While we pursue our growth strategies, we focus on implementing robust environmental conscious practices and are committed to operating our business in a sustainable manner. We intend to continuously work to reduce our carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency, reduce water consumption and reduce material usage," said chief executive officer Andrew Lo.

In 2016, although the company's energy consumption increased due to capacity expansion, its year-on-year carbon intensity decreased by 18 per cent. It also used seven per cent more renewable energy than the previous year. Albeit total water use increased with the production capacity during the year, the company has increased the use of recycled water to 51 per cent across our global operations.

"We strive to provide comprehensive care to our people – ensuring that their basic physiological and occupational safety needs are supported, along with their needs to succeed and realise their full potential. With community engagement being one of the five pillars of the group’s sustainability framework, we never forget to mobilise our huge workforce to support meaningful causes," the report said.  (RR)
