Danish sportswear brand Hummel has signed the Pakistan Accord in order to reinforce its commitment towards worker safety. The initiative, which is part of the expanded ‘International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile Industry,’ aims to ensure a safe environment for workers in the textile and garment sector in Pakistan.

The International Accord is a legally binding agreement between retailers and global unions. As a member, Hummel aims to ensure that its factories and buildings meet the highest standards of worker safety in terms of construction, electricity, and fire protection, the company said in a press release.

“Pakistan is one of our main supplier countries, and that’s also why it is crucial for us to partake in the Pakistan programme. This programme reflects our beliefs and strengthens our dedication of creating positive change in the industry,” said Hummel CEO Allan Vad Nielsen. “We view both our employees and those involved in the production of our products as our most precious resource. Ensuring their health and safety will always be our top concern, and this agreement further underlines our commitment to the workers in Pakistan.”

“We are proud to be part of the expanding community of companies dedicated to enhancing the working conditions in the industry, and we look forward to working closely with The International Accord and other signatories to create a better future for workers in Pakistan,” said Allan Vad Nielsen.

By becoming a member of the Pakistan Accord, Hummel joins companies such as Bestseller, H&M Group, Otto Group, and CNA in their effort to create a safer work environment for labourers in Pakistan.
