The demand for the Kyrgyz clothing items has escalated in neighbouring EEU countries of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan as these have become popular in those markets. The removal of customs service at the border has also become a boon to the apparel industry, according to Legprom.
Few of the garment companies in Kyrgyzstan have signed contracts with the trading companies in Russia which gives them monthly order of 10,000 product items and more, Kyrgyz media reports said.
The textile and clothing industry that unites small and medium-sized enterprises is a priority in Kyrgyzstan, with the highest export potential after gold and food products.
Keeping in mind development of local Kyrgyz apparel industry, Sooronbay Jeenbekov, Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan has promised to create the best possible conditions for the industry, including availability of low-interest loans to manufacturers from the Kyrgyz-Russian Development Fund.
The Kyrgyz garment industry also gets help from the Swiss Government, which in association with the International Trade Centre trains local producers in management, marketing and clothes design. The programme includes 175 garment enterprises, of which, at least 50 per cent have participated in international exhibitions. (RR)
