The first phase of an industrial park constructed by the Palm Apparel Group in the Digneron free zone in Haiti’s Roche Blanche has created 8,000 jobs till now and can employ 15,000 more once the project is complete, group promoters recently said. The first phase, covering 33,000 square metres, was completed in July 2018 with an investment of $15 million.

The Haitian promoters—Jean Paul Faubert, Guy Faubert, Patrick Blanchet, Alain Villard and Roger Carrié—intend to take full advantage of the Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity Through Partnership for Encouragement (HOPE) programme, which allows the United States to import duty-free quota of clothing from Haiti and generate employment and income in Haiti.

The group, started in 1995, also plans to build a hospital outside the free zone for the inhabitants of Digneron, according to a report in a Haitian news portal. (DS)
