ESPN, apparel powerhouse Gildan tie up

ESPN and Gildan announce today a multi-year sponsorship agreement focused on college football and basketball, beginning in the fall of 2011. The partnership will revolve around multiple collegiate events that are owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT), Inc., a subsidiary of ESPN.

ESPN and Gildan, the apparel giant, have scheduled a formal press conference for mid-June to announce the specifics of the partnership. Details on the press conference will be communicated at a later date.

Based in Montreal, Quebec, with US headquarters in Charleston, S.C., Gildan recently acquired Gold Toe Moretz for $350M. Gildan is a vertically-integrated marketer and global manufacturer of quality branded basic apparel and are the leading active wear brand in the screen-print market in the U.S. and Canada. The brand is continuing to grow in Europe, Mexico and the Asia-Pacific region. The company sells T-shirts, sport shirts and fleece.

Gildan is also one of the world's largest suppliers of branded and private label athletic, casual and dress socks sold to a broad spectrum of retailers in the U.S. Gildan markets its sock products under a diversified portfolio of company-owned brands, including Gold Toe, PowerSox, SilverToe, Auro, All Pro, GT, and the Gildan brand. The company is also the exclusive U.S. sock licensee to the Under Armour and New Balance brands.
