Readymade garment (RMG) manufacturers in Bangladesh have been asked to pay salary and other dues to their workers before the Eid, to avoid any incidents of strike.
Workers employed in RMG factories have taken to the streets every year before the Eid, Home Minister Shahara Khatun said and added that they have been demanding timely payment of salary and other allowances.
Expressing concern that the workers might take to streets this year as well, if some factory owners fail to disburse dues on time, she has asked the RMG manufacturers to take steps so that salary can be paid on time before the Eid.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) have already instructed their members to pay the salary with other allowances in time before the Eid.
