22 of the 56 TJ Hughes' stores across the UK will be closed down by mid-August, its administrators Ernst & Young (E&Y) have announced. This will lead to a loss of 1,061 jobs.
The company's Shrewsbury outlet is scheduled for closure on August 10th and another 21 outlets will be subsequently closed during the next four days. These include TJ Hughes' outlets in Watford, Crawley and Weston-super-Mare in the south, and Birkenhead, Widnes and Bolton in the northwest.
E&Y had earlier announced that TJ Hughes' outlets in Eastbourne, Glasgow, Liverpool and Sheffield have been bought by Lewis's Home Retail, thus saving the jobs of around 450 employees. The administrators will, however, continue to explore buyers for the remaining businesses of TJ Hughes.
