Sewing machines have been distributed to 28 women on their successful completion of the six-month training programme in dressmaking. The women received the machines from Mr Joseph Omari, the Chief Executive of Ghana's Kwahu South District.
The training was imparted under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), which aims to train and equip over 100 youth in the district, especially unemployed, with various skills.
Mr Omari said the government was committed to impart vocational skills to unemployed youth in the district so they can become self-employed.
He added that the policy of the government was very clear with respect to youth and their development and it would not break its promise to impart them with vocational skills.
Under the NYEP, various areas have been short-listed for making the youth self-reliant, Mr Omari said and added that the assembly would extend its continued support to the scheme.
