Apparel sales at 253 outlets owned by 86 companies that are members of the Japan Department Stores Association have reported a dip of 3.4 percent year-on-year to 124,741 million yen.
Category-wise, sales of menswear and accessories declined by 7.4 percent year-on-year to 20,829 million yen, while that of women's wear and accessories fell 2.5 percent to 83,970 million yen. However, the sales of kidswear increased marginally by 0.5 percent to 8,651 million yen.
The end of 'Cool Biz' campaign in July, abnormal temperature in August marked by a decrease in temperature from mid-month onwards, and impact of earlier demands, all led to a fall in August demand.
