Carhartt Inc., a family-owned work apparel producing firm, will invest over US$ 11 million for upgrading its northern Hopkins County's Hason based distribution centre.

The US$ 11 million investment would be utilized for upgrading the machinery, technology and conveyor systems at the large distribution centre. It will enhance the operational efficiency of the centre, and facilitate energy conservation as well.

The upgradation work at the distribution centre, is likely to conclude in 2014. Expansion on an area of 360,000 square feet at the facility already concluded in 2009.

The Dearborn, Mich.-based firm intended adding 150 new staff this year, thus taking the total staff strength at the customer service centre to 700 by end of the year. While most of the hiring at the firm has been completed, some operational positions are still lying vacant, according to Lindy Mueller, a representative of the firm.

Once a leading employer in Kentucky, Carhartt manufactures durable jackets, brown buck coveralls, trousers and other apparels. All Carhartt apparels bear dual labels – one of Made in the USA and other one of union-made.

Carhatt's product-line lures not only farmers and union workers but even the hunters, urban rappers and others.
