Providence-based Cleverhood featured in three shows

It's possible that Cleverhood may be Rhode Island's most unusual new fashion sensation. This autumn it has unexpectedly graced runways in Philly, San Francisco and Manhattan. It's been lauded as cycle chic and flaunted in front of hundreds of crazy corduroy aficionados at the Desmond Tutu Center.

Yet, it's still a few precious weeks before the first production run rolls out of the Northeast.
Created in Providence, Cleverhood is a line of distinctive outerwear for the fashionable urban traveler. It has the high-performance features for rainy city biking and the style to make it stand-out in a crowd. It is comprised of mostly US-made components and assembled by US garment workers.
“We set out to do something smart that would put good people to work,” said Susan Mocarski, creator of Cleverhood and head of the eponymously named small company. “There's so much creativity in Providence and this is the region that once lead the world in the garment industry. We're working to put it all together on our, admittedly, small scale. We figure we'll offer something good to people who take the 'rain-or-shine' approach to life – and small business.”
So far, so good.
• Cleverhood made its big debut at the Philadelphia Bike Expo on October 29. The evening fashion show featured some of the biggest names in biking and fashion – and the 'hood.
• This month in Manhattan, on the date most resembling corduroy (11/11/11), Cleverhood was feted at the grand meeting of the Corduroy Appreciation Club. With keynoter Amy Sedaris, a newly anointed corduroy messiah, and special recognition from filmmaker Wes Anderson, the Manhattan event featured the first all-corduroy fashion show. The waterproof corduroy rain cape appeared together with fashions from Agnes B. Homme, Duncan Quinn and Richard Chai for Penguin.
• In San Francisco on Saturday, Nov. 12, Cleverhood was featured at the cutting-edge bike fashion show Pedal Savvy at the SF Bike Expo. It showcased the latest in lifestyle cycling apparel and accessories.
Based in Providence, Cleverhood LLC, is a new, small business that produces a unique brand of outerwear that reflects an affirmation of American ingenuity, local places and solid reliability.
