The Ludhiana, Punjab-based Knitwear Club has asked the State Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to withdraw the recently notified advance value-added tax (VAT).

In a letter addressed to the CM, the Club said the textile and apparel industry in the State, especially the hosiery industry of Ludhiana, has been taken aback by the government's notification regarding the advance VAT, which would be soon levied on goods entering into Punjab from the neighbouring States either for trading, processing or manufacturing.

The letter urged the CM to abolish the advance VAT in order to give relief to the flourishing apparel industry in the State.
