Juan Manuel Urtubey, Governor of Salta province in Argentina, has inaugurated the first garment factory in the city of Tartagal, located in the north of the province.

The garment unit has been opened with a primary objective of increasing employment opportunities in the north of Salta. It has been set up as a part of the policy undertaken by Governor Urtubey from the beginning of his term, to enhance the growth in interior of the province.

The project is being carried out through a cooperative work and the workers have to initially undergo a two-months training in sewing fabric. The garment factory has initially employed 40 women and the number is expected to rise to 60 in near future.

The factory is intended to meet the existing demand for clothing in the province of Salta. However, in the first stage, the unit will manufacture white uniforms and the first school smocks manufactured by the new cooperative will be purchased by the Ministry of Social Development.

The investment for the new unit was made with funds from oil and gas royalties.
