From being just a traditional fashion and a preferred choice of only some people, Khadi has today established itself as a fashion fabric admired by people of almost all age groups and classes. Taking its journey further, Khadi's latest manifestation has come in the form of Khadi jeans.

Sewapuri, Varanasi-based Krishak Vikash Sansthan will display its new innovative product 'Khadi jeans' together with several other readymade Khadi garments during the upcoming exhibition of Khadi and Village Industry to be held from December 20, 2011 to January 3, 2012 at Varanasi.

Besides Khadi jeans and readymade garments, the expo would also showcase designer Khadi, silk, leather shoes, woollens and home furnishing textiles like blankets, bed sheets, etc.

Mr. AK Singh, Assistant Development Officer of the Khadi and Village Industry Commission (KVIC) said as demand for ready-to-wear garments is rising, womenswear and menswear like kurtis, shirts, suits and trousers, specifically designed to cater to the present day fashion, would all be showcased at the expo.

KVIC Teliabagh (Varanasi) Assistant Director, Ram Vriksha Ram, said Khadi wear manufacturing institutions are now-a-days getting in touch with and even tying up with designers, who train weavers and artisans in designing.

He informed that various projects under Product Development, Design Intervention and Packaging (PRODIP) of Khadi extend financial assistance to individuals or institutions for receiving training from a designer or trainer, evolving new appealing trends in material packaging and for procuring machines at subsidised rates.

The exhibition being conducted with a budget of one million rupees would have nearly 75 stalls displaying Khadi as well as village industry products, Mr. Ram said. He added that several artisans from West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar and institutions from Western Uttar Pradesh would participate in the expo.

Besides exhibition and sale of various products, the visitors at the expo would also get to see demonstration of some yarn making techniques.
