Demron-W Suit gets SEI Class 2

As Demron's exclusive manufacturer, RST has 13 national and international patents for the Demron fabric. Demron is the only protective gear on the market today providing complete multi-hazard protection. This is because the standards, which had been set to address the major chemical and biological threats of the past, had not been updated to address new emerging threats.

Therefore, most suits only provided protection from chemical agents, but no protection against nuclear and radiological threats. Moreover, the suits were not designed with an advanced self-cooling fabric like Demron, so they create heat stress when worn, limiting the amount of time they can be used on the field.

Added Dr. DeMeo: “Global authorities must recognize that the growing number of nuclear and other threats today must be addressed, and they must leverage the latest technologies and safety protocols to protect their first responders, military and the general public.

The effects of the nuclear disaster in Japan are currently being studied and, while we may not understand all the impacts for some time, we do know that countless men, women and children are being exposed to unsafe levels of radiation that will likely seriously harm their health and the health of their offspring. We also know the nuclear disaster that occurred in Japan could happen anywhere in the world, and our global leaders must be better prepared.”

Because RST's Demron-W CBRN Class 2 suit is made from a nano-metal material, the Demron-W suit is the only Class 2 suit that provides any protection against ionizing nuclear and radiological hazards. The most thermal conductive of any suit in its class, it can significantly reduce heat stress by allowing passive cooling.

The RST Demron-W CBRN Class 2 suit is also differentiated because it weighs fewer than 10 pounds and is designed to increase operational capability by allowing longer operating times in nuclear/radiological environments. The lightweight, self-cooling fabric is the only one that reduces heat stress, enables single-operator front entry and has rugged construction, a proprietary harness system, and multiple points of adjustment for fit customization and comfort.

In addition to RST NFPA 1997-2007 Class 2 and ISO 8194 certification, RST has also been awarded ISO 9001 certification for Quality Management and ISO 13485 certification for Medical Device Quality Management.

Demron's other certifications include: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Class 2 Certification for the 1994-2007 Standard on Protective Ensembles for First Responders to CBRN Terrorism Incidents; ISO 9001:2008; ISO 8194 and ISO 13485:2003; National Institute of Justice (NIJ) 0108.01 Certification for the Demron High Energy Nuclear/Ballistic IED RDD Shield; and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) 0101.06 Certified Ballistic Vest.

RST's personal-protection line includes the full-body suits as well as high-energy anti-nuclear ballistic blankets, medical X-ray aprons, and ballistic vests. RST products are currently deployed throughout the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the United States in the military, police, fire, and nuclear cleanup communities. Notable end-users include the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).

Radiation Shield Technologies (RST), with headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Miami, is a global leader in the research, development and production of multi-hazard personal-protection performance enhancement systems.
