The retail sale of apparels in Japan declined in November 2011, as above normal temperatures during the month negatively impacted the sales of winter garments, including coats.
The Japan Chain Stores Association, which represents 8,077 stores that are owned by 60 firms across Japan, said the value of apparel sales declined by 3.3 percent year-on-year to 121,968 million yen during the month.
In menswear, the sales decreased by 1.3 percent y-o-y to 26,657 million yen during November, while the sales of womenswear fell by 4.3 percent y-o-y to 36,985 million yen.
During the period under review, the sales of other apparels and accessories also declined by 3.5 percent y-o-y to 58,324 million yen.
However, good sales were observed in men's casual wear and women's jeans sections.
After showing a downward trend in August and September, Japanese chain stores had seen a positive trend in apparel sales in October this year.
