OLYMP: knitted goods achieve record sales in 2011

At the new site in the modern Lhasa Baiyi Department Store at No. 8 Yu Tuo Road in Lhasa City, in the Xi Zang Province, there is now an OLYMP store covering an area of 36 square metres, which is a considerable size by local standards.

This enormous growth requires a continuous adaptation of the structures in all areas of the com-pany. Therefore in 2011/2012, OLYMP is once again investing significant financial resources in the structural extension and layout of the company's headquarters. This involves the areas of administration and logistics in particular.

Mark Bezner explains the reasons behind his investment decisions: "From 2013 onwards, we urgently require the new logistics centre in Bietigheim-Bissingen in order to increase our warehouse capacity which has now clearly become insufficient. It is precisely the rapid, smooth and reliable nature of the delivery service that has for years been one of our fundamental core competences for the entire business."

The rising demand, the increasing production volumes and the growing need of the market for the quick and short-term availability of OLYMP products require a comprehensive, rapid and efficient warehousing system.

For this reason, additional space is urgently required at direct proximity to the existing warehouse and despatch areas, in order to significantly increase the already inadequate ca-pacity. In consideration of all building regulations and environmental requirements, a state-of-the-art, high-capacity and fully-automated carton warehouse has been planned in collaboration with the town of Bietigheim-Bissingen.

This new warehouse will have a capacity of up to 245,000 additional storage locations for cartons and is currently already in the construction phase. The considerable investment volumes predicted for the new OLYMP logistics centre, which is connected to the exist-ing warehouse buildings, amount to approximately 30 million euros.

These measures should rectify the fraught situation currently affecting stock turnover and put an end to expenditure for off-site warehousing by 2013. At the same time, the extension to the OLYMP administrative building through the addition of a fourth storey providing an additional 880 square metres of office space, was also completed by the end of 2011.

The increasing sales volumes at home and abroad in all product lines have not only led to a disproportionate economic growth of the entire company, but have also led to the creation of new jobs in Germany. During the last financial year, the number of OLYMP employees rose throughout Ger-many by a further 34, reaching a total of 484 full-time jobs.

A further 118 people are employed at MÄRZ München GmbH & Co. KG in München-Neuperlach. This takes the final number of employees of the OLYMP Bezner Group to a total of 602 as of 31st December 2011.
