Messe Frankfurt France backs the PODIUM Jeunes Stylistes competition, together with the Paris Mayor's office. Nonetheless, a springboard was needed to showcase these young talented people in the world's fashion capital. In 2009, the PODIUM Jeunes Stylistes filled this vacuum by launching the premier of its open competition to fashion designers from French and international schools and to self-taught designers.

This fine initiative is due to the association which brings together young graduates from the IPAG Business School, ESCP Europe and ESMOD. Like the Paris Mayor's office, it was the calibre of the PODIUM Jeunes Stylistes project that appealed to Messe Frankfurt France and made it decide to support it. It will now be a partner starting this February, on the occasion of the third year of the competition.

A fresh, intelligent concept: once a year, 15 designers chosen from over 200 candidates create two outfits in line with a set theme, in a given fabric. The designers are followed by an artistic director for 3 months. Their designs are presented to a jury of professionals: from fashion, textiles and the retail sector (François Lesage was on the first jury, Alexis Mabille, Farid Chenoune, buyers from the Galeries Lafayette and Printemps..

Apart from artistic recognition, the winner enjoys the privilege of a course at the ESCP Europe School of Management in order to develop the marketing and commercial side of their business project.

The first competition, presided over by Franck Sorbier, awarded the prize to designer Sébastien Mayen. The second in 2011, sponsored by Peter Copping, the Artistic Director at Nina Ricci, gave to prize to the talented Quentin Leullier.

“We've decided to become a partner for the PODIUM Jeunes Stylistes as it's an excellent and realistic initiative. It's an approach to design that takes into account the expectations and restrictions of the market, and that corresponds exactly with our vision” Michael Scherpe, President of Messe Frankfurt France told us.

The third competition, under the sponsorship of Christophe Josse will take place on
Wednesday, 8th February this year at the Hotel Westin in the 1st arrondissement. The chosen theme is schizophrenia.

This show focuses on two strong lines:
- The launch of a capsule collection by the PODIUM Jeunes Stylistes! The 15 candidates will be creating a third outfit which will be classed under ready-to-wear and called “Collection PJS” and will be on sale in department stores.
- The presentation of the Collection PJS at ApparelSourcing Paris, the Messe Frankfurt show for finished goods, from 13 to 16 February this year. It will have the benefit of tremendous exposure and the potential of the international visitors.

Vincent Rouvière, President of the PODIUM Jeunes Stylistes association explains: “From the very start, our idea was to make the competition a link between design and the market, which is where the idea for this PJS Capsule Collection stemmed from which is the manifestation of the whole idea. Being able to hold it at ApparelSourcing Paris, an international meeting point is an excellent opportunity to obtain immediate feedback from the professionals.
