Saudi Arabian garment market valued at 8bn riyals

Saudi Arabia's garment market has a volume of 8 billion Saudi riyals, according to Mazen Batarji, Deputy Chairman of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI),

The Kingdom each year imports more than 85,000 tons of garment items, 90 percent of which come from European and Asian countries like France, Italy, China and Taiwan, while Arab countries like Egypt and Syria contribute only 10 percent of the same, Mr. Batarji said during the maiden international exhibition “Moda Expo” on textiles, garments and fashion held in the city of Jeddah.

Around 80 domestic and foreign firms specializing in garment production participated in the four-day expo.

Egyptian and Syrian firms were among those companies which showcased their latest collections of menswear, womenswear, kidswear and sportswear.

The JCCI official said that such expos are meant to improve the economic and investment relations between the Kingdom and other nations. Such events greatly help in boosting the trade activities between the participating nations.

Jeddah, now-a-days, is developing as a centre for economic activities, and it thus provides a unique opportunity for the domestic as well as overseas enterprises to unite on a common platform, he added.

The fair presented the visitors as well as foreign participants with an opportunity to have a look at the latest products from Saudi Arabia, Syria and Egypt.
